| 1996 | This year marks the 20th Anniversay of the High Speed Train. Eighty-two Power Cars were built between the years of 1976 to 1982 and they provide the tractive effort to pull trains made up of Mark 3 coaches on some of British Rails premier InterCity services. So succesful is the design thar it was an HST that broke the world speed record for diesel traction in 1973 when the train reached a speed of 143 mph (230 km/h) between Northallerton and Thirsk, in Yorkshire. The set comprises of a power car and dummy power car which both have headlights that illuminate in the direction of travel and three coaches one of which is a buffet car. A Hornby TrakMat is also included. This Special Anniversary Edition train set will also include, in the first 5,000 produced, a numbered commemorative certificate, outlining a brief history of the High Speed Train. |
