Company Information: Early roots date back to 1846 with headquarters in Philadelphia. The railroad was eventually to become the largest railroad in the USA through 1960’s with over 10,000-miles of track primarily located in lucrative Northeastern Region collectively called the “Rust Belt”. Major metropolises served by the PRR include Philadelphia, New York, Washington, and Chicago. Merged in 1968 with chief rival Penn Central and then again in 1999 when it’s routes were divided among two companies, the CSX and Norfolk & Southern. Famous for named passenger trains including The Broadway serving Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia as well as the Congressional serving New York and Washington.
All passenger services were handed over to government run Amtrak by 1971.
Recognizable features of the railroad include the world-famous Horseshoe Curve and the pioneering GG-1 electric locomotives.
