1988 1998 marks the 50th anniversary of the Mallards successful attempt on the worlds speed record for steam traction. The locomotive touched 126mph for a short distance on 3rd July 1938.
1993 Still the holder for the world speed record for steam, Mallard is depicted in its preserved state. The livery is garter blue and the tender is of the non-corridor type. Tender powered by Type 5 ringfield motor.

1996 On the 3rd July, 1938 the London North Eastern Railway claimed the World Steam Speed Record of 126mph (202km/h), a record that still stands today. The locomotive that gained the record was the Class A4 Mallard which has been preserved and can be seen at the National Railway Museum in York. The model has a ringfield motor in the non-corridor tender. Suitable coaches R.477 and R.488.
