This incredible engineering feat was completed on November 7, 1885, six years ahead of schedule. Currently CP operates tracks west of Montreal to the Pacific coast. It’s world-famous transcontinental passenger service ‘The Canadian’ was handed over with all other passenger services to government agency VIA Rail in 1978 where it was ‘merged’ with Canadian National’s competing service.
