2000 | Built at Swindon and moved to traffic on the 25 March 1960. Class 9F number 92220 was the last steam locomotive to be built for B.R. In recognition of this fact the locomotive was not only painted in B.R. green, while others in the class had been black, it was also aptly named Evening Star. The locomotive, which was fitted with a double chimney, was used to haul heavy freight, and remained in continual service until its withdrawal in March 1965. Evening Star can now be seen at the National Railway Museum, York. The year 2000 marks the fortieth anniversary of Evening Star and the super detailed Hornby model is a fitting tribute to such a magnificent locomotive. Incorporates the new model ringfield motor in the tender. Suitable for second radius curves or greater. |
