The Mixed Traffic Class 4-MT designed by R.A. Riddles was one of several BR Standard Class locomotives produced by British Railways after Nationalisation. Much of the locomotive was designed at the ex Southern Railways Brighton Works but several parts of the locomotive were simultaneously designed at Swindon, Doncaster and Derby. The 80 strong Class was first introduced onto the tracks in May 1951 with all of them being dispersed in the Midland, Western and Southern Regions. With a myriad of separately fitted components this new model has the performance expected from a Hornby model.
