Year Information: The four-cylinder Castle Class was introduced by the G.W.R. in 1923, to handle ever increasing West County passenger traffic and also, so it was said, to challenge the Gresley Pacifics htat technical rivals L.N.E.R. were then building in Doncaster. By the close of the thirties, the Castle Class was G.W.R.s standard express locomotive cleared for use on all routes without restriction - a very fast and powerful locomotive that continued to be built in Swindon until 1950. Earl Cairns is presented in post nationalisation livery of that late steam period. Model has a ringfield motor in the locomotive.
