2000 | Probably the most famous of the Merchant Navy Class. ‘Clan Line’ was the last of its type to be rebuilt in October 1969. At that time the locomotive had achieved a mileage of 401,005 but, by the time of withdrawal by BR in July 1967, Clan Line had achieved a total of 794,39I miles. Rescued from the cutters torch by the Merchant Navy Locomotive Society in the same month of withdrawal, the Iocomotive was Eventually put on shed at Ashford, Kent and used to pull special trains over the B.R. network. In 1975 Clan Line was moved to the Bulmer Railway Centre in Hereford where it continued to be used with special trains and also as an exhibit at various rail shows. CIan Line is in continuous service and can be seen running on the main line pulling steam specials. |
2001 | Arguably the most famous of the Merchant Navy Class, 'Clan Line' was the last of its type to be rebuilt in October 1959. At that time the locomotive had achieved over 400,000 miles by withdrawal the mileage had increased to nearly 800,000. 'Clan Line' is now maintained and operated by the Merchant Navy Locomotive Preservation Society Limited and can be seen hauling a distinguished rake of Pullman coaches. As with many other Hornby Merchant Navy models 'Clan Line' is powered by a 5 pole motor housed in the locomotive. |
