Class Information: Heavy weight Pacific locomotives designed for Top Link passenger services on the Southern Railway were conceived during hostilities of World War 2. The Merchant Navy class were nicknamed “Spam Cans” due to their unorthodox appearance. A total of 30 locomotives were constructed, all named after steam ship lines operating out of Southampton Docks. Model Information: New generation model steam locomotives for the new millennium.
Both the rebuilt Merchant Navy Class and Coronation Class locomotives are a new generation of models for the new millennium. Produced to the exacting Super Detail standard, both models include in their specification blackened finish handrails and wheels plus etched brass valve gear and detailed cab interior. They also feature a five pole motor housed in their respective locomotive bodies for precise slow speed running.

2000 | Number 35023 Holland - Afrika Line was rebuilt in February 1951. by which time it had run for 433,833 miles. During the rebuild process 35023 was fitted with a modified 6000 gallon tender. In February 1960 Holland - Afrika Line was shedded at Bournemouth where it remained until being allocated to Weymouth an October and then later to Nine Elms in March 1967. By July of that year, and because of the end of steam on the Southern Region. 35023 was eventually scrapped in April 1968, by which time the locomotive had reached a total mileage of nearly one million miles. |
