2001 | Named after the Fighter Squadron that flew out of Biggin Hill in the Second World War, the locomotive ’92 Squadron’ first appeared in 1948 carrying a malachite livery but with the newly formed British Railways name on the tender. The locomotive was withdrawn in 1964, but by the end of 1976 ’92 Squadron’ was destined for preservation, and after extensive work by a dedicated band of enthusiasts eventually took steam in 1998. ’92 Squadron’ can now be seen operating on the Nene Valley Railway, Peterborough. The Hornby model is representative of her present day status and is heavily detailed and incorporates, amongst other features, scale wheels and valve gear, correct profile tender, cab interior, outside brakes and several separately fitted components. The locomotive offers smooth control with the power being supplied by a 5 pole motor housed in the locomotive. |
