Model Information: Twentieth Anniversary of the Flying Scotsman visiting Australia.
In 1988 Australia celebrated its two hundredth anniversary and part of their celebrations included a visit from the World famous steam locomotive, “Flying Scotsman” owned at that time by Sir William McAlpine.
During the visit “Flying Scotsman” achieved many things but above all the locomotive established a new record by steaming 442 miles (711km) from Parks to Broken Hill without stopping making this journey the longest non-stop run ever recorded by a steam locomotive. In view of this and the anniversary of the Bicentennial Celebrations the Hornby “Flying Scotsman” has been produced as a limited edition of 1000 models incorporating several features that could be seen on the locomotive as it travelled across Australia.
Each model is supplied in a commemorative pack complete with numbered certificate.
